The area is rich in hill, moorland, rivers and valleys making it a popular destinaton for hillwalkers and cyclists alike. Fed by its many tributaries the River Tweed offers some of the best fishing in Scotland. There are many castles and abbeys to explore providing an insight into more turbulent times in centuries past. A landscape of small villages and larger market towns, there is excellent walking available including The Southern Upland Way a Coast to Coast National Trail. For the cyclist 7stanes Glentress and Innerleithen in the Tweed Valley provides some of the best biking trails in the UK. Many attractions in the area include Dryburgh Abbey, Kelso Abbey, Dawyck Botanic Gardens, Harmony Gardens. Abbotsford House, Thirlestane Castle and St Abb`s National Nature reserve to name but a few.

Greenknowe Tower

Greenknowe Tower is a 16th century tower house, located just west of the village of Gordon, in the Scottish Borders. Although a roofless ruin, the stonework of the tower is well preserved, and represents a fine example of a later tower house, built more as a home than as a place of defence. Melrose

Melrose sits in the centre of the Scottish Border countryu. It was founded as a Roman fort to gueard the banks of the River Tweed, and later ganied prominence as a result of its Cisterican Abbey whose ruins still domintate the town. The hostel a former Georgian mansion overlooks the Abbey and provides great facilities, private and family rooms and a warm welcome.
